About us

Our mission is to provide specialized microbiological analyses, based on molecular biology techniques and to conduct molecular epidemiology studies of infectious diseases, which contribute to ensuring public health and safety.
In addition, we provide reference expertise and rapid intervention for the microbiological diagnosis of infections associated with medical care and antibiotic resistance.

Objectives:

• scientific research in the field of causes and mechanisms of bacterial, viral, parasitic infections and means of preventing and combating them, including through scientific cooperation with other institutions in the country and abroad.
• pilot studies to optimize methods for the identification and molecular typing of bacterial and viral human pathogens.
• studies on the virulence, antimicrobial resistance and degree of genetic relatedness of indigenous human pathogens, with relevance for the field of public health.
• scientific research in the field of causes and mechanisms of bacterial infections associated with healthcare and means of their prevention and control, aiming at the implementation of new diagnostic methods harmonized at European or global level.
• rapid microbiological diagnosis through advanced molecular typing methods, harmonized at European level, in the specific field of competence, namely the identification/confirmation of etiological agents involved in nosocomial infections, their resistance to antibiotics, virulence factors.
• participation in European and/or global research/surveillance programs of healthcare-associated infections and antibiotic resistance.
• training and consultancy in microbiology: training and professional development in the field for medical students, PhD students, specialists with higher education etc.
