History of Medicine and Medical Humanities

About us

The virtual Department for History of Medicine and Medical Humanities engages in interdisciplinary outreach that explores the human side of medicine. It bridges medicine with disciplines such as history, ethics, philosophy, literature, and the arts to enrich understanding of the human experience in healthcare. Activities include examining the social and cultural dimensions of health and illness, and promoting narrative medicine as a tool for reflection and connection. We aim to foster empathy, critical thinking, and professionalism among researchers and professionals within the life sciences community.  Through these efforts, the department fosters more compassionate, reflective, and culturally aware healthcare practices.
