Cancer biology and targeted therapy

About us

The virtual Department of Cancer biology and therapy focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive tumor initiation, progression, and resistance, which in turn informs the development of more effective interventions. Advances in omics technologies have transformed our ability to profile cancers at unprecedented resolution, uncovering actionable alterations and biomarkers that guide diagnosis and prognosis. The overarching goal is to translate fundamental findings into the design of novel targeted therapies, which exploit specific vulnerabilities in cancer cells, thereby improving patient outcomes and reducing toxicity. The virtual department will utilize great synergisms within the involved institutions, including access to facilities, specific expertise, and the availability of patient samples from biobanks.
