Chronobiology and Circadian Health Innovation

About us

The Department of Chronobiology and Circadian Health Innovation will be dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research on biological rhythms and their impact on human health, disease prevention, and therapeutic optimization. Its core mission aligns with the A4L_BRIDGE objectives by fostering high-impact, translational research in the emerging field of circadian biology—an area of growing relevance for personalized medicine, aging, neurodegeneration, metabolic regulation, mental health, and sleep disorders.

Activities will include:

  • Cutting-edge research on molecular, physiological, and clinical aspects of circadian rhythms, with emphasis on melatonin signaling, sleep-wake regulation, chrononutrition, and time-dependent drug response (chronopharmacology).
  • Development of research career frameworks in chronobiology by integrating early-career scientists into EU-wide collaborations, offering tailored mentoring, e-learning modules, and laboratory exchanges.
  • Seed funding and pilot studies aimed at interdisciplinary projects connecting chronobiology with neuroscience, endocrinology, immunology, and behavioral science.
  • Creation of a Virtual Circadian Research Hub, promoting open science, real-time data sharing, and integration with international chronobiology networks.
  • Active industry partnerships exploring circadian-aligned drug delivery systems, wearable sleep and rhythm-monitoring technologies, and workplace chronowellness tools.
  • Societal engagement and education, including science communication campaigns and community workshops on circadian health.

This department will contribute to institutional excellence by embedding circadian science within health innovation, thus enhancing the visibility and scientific competitiveness of Central and Eastern European research institutions in the European Research Area.
