Disease Prevention and Lifestyle Medicine

About us

The research focuses on interdisciplinary activities in the field of health promotion, disease prevention, and lifestyle-related health determinants, combining scientific research, applied interventions, and educational initiatives.
The unit conducts research on the prevention of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, with particular emphasis on identifying and modifying lifestyle-related risk factors. Activities include population-based studies, assessment of preventive strategies, and evaluation of health outcomes related to non-communicable diseases.

A major area of activity involves the assessment and promotion of physical activity as a key determinant of health. The unit designs and evaluates structured physical activity interventions (e.g. Nordic Walking programs), monitors adherence to physical activity guidelines, and analyzes the effects of exercise on physical, metabolic, and mental health outcomes.

Research activities also address dietary habits and nutritional behaviors, focusing on their relationship with metabolic health, inflammation, and overall well-being. The unit evaluates diet quality and its role in disease prevention and health promotion.

The unit investigates health-related behaviors and psychosocial factors, including stress management, mental well-being, and health awareness. Studies often target specific populations such as students, working adults, and vulnerable or at-risk groups, aiming to understand behavioral patterns and support positive lifestyle change.
